A healthy diet 'helps lower cholesterol'
That is the advice being issued by Jules Payne, chief executive of Heart UK, who has suggested that eating Hovis Hearty Oats bread is just one way to introduce more of the grain into a person's diet.
She said: "People with general high cholesterol, or concerns around it, can take control of certain things. They need to have a healthy diet. It has been identified that oats do lower cholesterol."
Ms Payne also suggested that people could start the day with a cereal which contains oats.
Other foods recommended by the charity include almonds, walnuts and dairy alternatives made using soya instead.
Her comments come during National Cholesterol Week follow research from Heart UK which has revealed that nearly half the population have never had their cholesterol checked.
The survey also revealed that 40 per cent of people wrongly believe high cholesterol results from drinking too much alcohol.
