Alcohol Concern: Less alcohol is often more at Christmas
Andrew Misell, manager of Alcohol Concern Cymru, said that people traditionally drink more alcohol at Christmas as they feel it is sociable to join in with the drinking.
But he warned that the consequences of this excessive alcohol use "are not always what we'd wish for".
"Aside from a sore head in the morning, heavy drinking can worsen family tensions, as well as storing up health problems for the future," Mr Misell explained.
"When it comes to alcohol at Christmas, less is often more."
Christmas Day is not the only time when people overindulge, however, as many workers drink to excess at their office parties.
"We need to remember that we'll have to face our colleagues in the morning," Mr Misell pointed out.
There are around 13,000 alcohol-related hospital admissions and 1,000 related deaths in Wales each year, according to Alcohol Concern Cymru.
