Companies who market junk food to children are having a negative influence on the type of things young people are asking their parents to buy for their packed lunches.

That is according to Charlie Powell, campaign director for the Children's Food Campaign, who has suggested that marketing to children is encouraging unhealthy eating habits.

He said: "We call upon the government to make healthy school meals free for all school children, which will ensure that more families, including those from low income brackets, can have a healthy meal every day."

His comments follow research from The School Food Trust, which has revealed that 40 per cent of children's packed lunches do not contain any fruit or vegetables.

The World Cancer Research Fund stated that the research shows parents are missing an opportunity to improve their child's eating habits by failing to offer them fruit or vegetables on a daily basis.ADNFCR-858-ID-800747935-ADNFCR
