Cycling is 'great exercise' for over-50s
Steve Halsall, fitness travel expert and entrepreneur, claimed that over-50s can still enjoy the majority of sports and highlighted cycling as ideal exercise for older consumers.
He said: "Cycling is proving to be the biggest growing activity as it is kind on the joints and great for the cardiovascular system.
"Weight training, yoga and pilates are fine too as long as it is part of a rounded week's activity."
Mr Halsall advised Brits aged 50 and over to build a long term fitness plan and be patient with their progress.
"I think the 50s are the decade to sort things out. If not, one is left with the potential to rot and be more exposed to the degenerative diseases associated with getting older.
Slimming World's annual National Slimming Survey revealed that 24 per cent of UK consumers are obese according to the Body Mass Index but only six per cent believe that their weight problem is severe enough for them to be classed as obese.
