It is important for children to learn how to cook so that they limit the amount of processed foods they are eating.

That is according to Nigel Denby, dietician and founder of Grubforlife.org.uk, who has suggested that gaining cooking skills in childhood can encourage healthy eating.

He said: "If children and young people can't cook for themselves, they will only be able to rely on processed food, so [teaching them to cook] is vital for long-term health."

Mr Denby said that processed foods often contain high amounts of salt which has been linked with various health problems.

His comments follow research by Leisure Range Cookers, which has highlighted an increasing interest in baking.

The study found that sixteen to 24-year-olds are six times more likely to bake a sweet or savoury item daily, compared with other age groups.ADNFCR-858-ID-800778894-ADNFCR
