While many people will have cut down their food and alcohol intake following several weeks of excess over Christmas and the New Year, one expert suggests that is important not to try and reach your weight loss goals too quickly.

Charlotte Watts, nutritional therapist and founder of de-stressyourlife.com, urged people dieting not to give their bodies too much of a shock by making drastic changes all in one go.

"You have to look at where your diet and lifestyle is in the first instance and then think of taking a step towards [your goal]," she said.

"If you've been really ploughing in the sugar and really overindulging over Christmas - then you don't want to be suddenly going from that stage to something really austere."

Advising against drastic detoxes, she suggested that the best thing to do is to start by trying to balance blood sugar and eating plenty of vegetables.

This will help people cut back the amount of sugar they eat in a more natural way.ADNFCR-858-ID-801263398-ADNFCR
