Britons are becoming "a nation of couch potatoes", which is leading to rising levels of obesity, according to Dr Hilary Jones, spokesperson for the Tena Men: Time to Tackle Your Health Campaign.

Dr Jones suggested that lack of physical exercise is contributing to the increase in the number of people suffering from conditions which are related to being overweight.

He said: "[People are exposing themselves to] medical problems ... as a result of being overweight ... heart disease, gallstones [and] digestive problem."

Bladder weakness, he warned, can also be associated with people who are carrying excess weight.

In order to maintain fitness levels, people should be aiming to take a minimum of half an hour's exercise per day, Dr Jones said.

His comments come in light of research by the Tena Men: Time to Tackle Your Health campaign which has revealed that nearly half of men questioned are concerned about developing cancer.ADNFCR-858-ID-800733313-ADNFCR
