Exercise helps manage weight and joint issues, sports therapist advises
Ms James explained that keeping physically fit can prevent people from developing osteoporosis when they get older.
She said: "Exercise is not just about weight management and it is not just about keeping healthy. It is also about joint management."
It can also improve a person's mental wellbeing, she suggested, as exercising produces chemicals in the brain which keeps people feeling positive.
This sense of positivity, she said, can then "spread to other decision-making areas of your life".
Her comments follow research from the second annual Scottish Widows Priorities of Life index, which revealed that one in ten people want more time in their lives to exercise.
Despite this desire to keep fit, some 45 per cent of Britons admitted that they neglect their physical fitness.
