He explained that people wrongly believe that fish is difficult to cook and have a misconception that it is troublesome to eat because of the bones contained in it.
Mr Clough said: "All these 'objections' to making fish a bigger part of everyday menus can be addressed but require massive and ongoing education campaigns across the generations."
People are also concerned about the shelf life of fish, Mr Clough stated.
His comments follow research by Efalex, experts in omega-3, whose research revealed that while 60 per cent of children believe fish can 'make them brainy', over 31 per cent do not like it.
Some 21 per cent of those questioned stated that they were not keen on fish as they believed it smelt unpleasant, while 21 per cent said that it has a disagreeable taste.
