Gillian McKeith advises organic, whole grain produce in pregnancy
That is according to Gillian McKeith, holistic nutritionist and TV presenter, who has suggested that the same advice could be given to women at any stage during their life.
She said: "Eating the right food during pregnancy is not so different from eating the right food at any other time of life ... avoid processed foods and high sugar foods."
Ms McKeith explained that by so doing, pregnant women could cut their chances of developing gestational diabetes and may avoid gaining too much weight.
In addition, she advised women to opt for whole grains, which contain more nutrients and fibre and too have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
So-called toxic intake could be reduced by opting for organic produce during pregnancy, she said.
Her comments follow research from Kings College showing a link between eating disorders and fertility problems.
