Green tea may slow weight gain
The study revealed that obese mice that were given green tea while consuming a high-fat diet put on weight at a significantly slower rate than those who were not given the supplement.
Joshua Lambert, assistant professor of food science in agricultural sciences, said: "Our results suggest that if you supplement with ... green tea you gain weight more slowly."
Professor Lambert said that the green tea did not affect the amount of food the mice were eating and therefore it is believed it does not have an effect on appetite.
A trial by Halle University Hospital is hoping to discover whether green tea can help in the prevention of colon cancer.
The study will examine whether green tea can influence the formation of colon polyps, which can be precancerous.
