Gut problems can be aggravated by certain foods, doctor warns
That is according to Dr Nick Read, expert gastroenterologist, who has said that stress can also be a trigger for having heartburn.
He said: "Food and mood work together on the gut. Once the gut is tense, stressed and sensitive, there are certain foods that are going to cause problems such as fats, fibre, some fruits and coffee."
Dr Read explained that such foods can have a negative effect on most people, although those with gut sensitivity should be particularly wary of them.
His comments come in light of research commissioned by Zantac 75 Relief, which showed that women are more likely to suffer from the severe symptoms of heartburn.
Some 41 per cent of sufferers believe that stress and anxiety are the cause of the digestive complaint that can be so severe some mistake their symptoms for a heart attack.
