Heart UK: Good diet and regular exercise keeps you healthy
That is according to Linda Main, dietetic advisor for Heart UK – The Cholesterol Charity, who said that for good heart, adults should aim for 30 minutes of exercise on at least five days of the week and eat a balanced diet.
"Eating a heart healthy diet low in saturated fat and salt, rich in whole grains, fruits and vegetables, beans and pulses, and managing everyday stress", are ways to maintain a healthy heart, Ms Main said.
In addition, she advised that people who smoke should give up.
Exercise should leave a physically fit person slightly out of breath, but still able to hold a conversation, she said.
Her comments come in light of research published in the Lancet which suggested that fifteen minutes of exercise a day may be of benefit to people.
