Majority of breakfast cereals 'high in sugar'
A study of the nutritional content of 50 breakfast cereals, conducted by consumer watchdog Which?, found that 32 of them contained high levels of sugar.
Amanda Diamond, Which? deputy editor, revealed that the worst offender was Kellogg's Frosties.
"Perhaps more surprisingly, our analysis revealed that other cereals which may be thought of as 'healthy' were also high sugar," she continued.
"We found that Kellogg's Special K and supermarket own-brand rice and wheat flakes - often marketed as low-fat - are high in sugar. And Kellogg's All-Bran Bran Flakes contain 22g of sugar per 100g - almost as much as Weetabix Chocolatey Weetos."
The findings indicate that those trying to lose weight should check the packaging carefully before buying breakfast cereals.
However, even this can be tricky, as Which? found that just 14 out of the 50 cereals had traffic light labelling, as recommended by the UK's Food Standards Agency.
The report was welcomed by the Children's Food Campaign, which is concerned that food manufacturers are not doing enough to combat obesity.
