Mental attitude 'key to weight loss'
That is according to Usula James, visiting teaching fellow at Oxford University Medical School, who explained that most people know what they ought to be doing for a healthier life – where they fall down is in actually seeing it through.
"If you've got the right mindset, losing weight and maintaining the weight loss becomes a constant," she said.
"It’s not a priority out there in the front of your mind - it becomes a background programme and that way you don't talk yourself out of it."
She added that it is a good idea to set yourself a very specific set of goals, such as losing x number of pounds by a given date, or being able to fit into a specific outfit in time for an event.
"If you set a goal that's concrete and fixed in time, you're much more likely to achieve it – rather than if it's abstract and non-specific," Ms James added.
