Nursery aims to promote healthy childhood diets
Little Pixies Nursery, located in the rural village of Kinton, Shropshire, will educate youngsters about their diet through a range of engaging activities, reports Shropshire Live.
Young children will be taken through the whole process of choosing which fruit and vegetables to grow, harvesting their crops and finally tasting the fresh produce.
All the meals the children eat at the nursery will also be supplemented by locally grown produce and priority will be given to seasonal fruit and vegetables.
The nursery aims to provide children with a balanced diet of four portions of fruit and vegetables, two portions of protein and at least two portions of dairy produce.
Debra Lovell, co-owner of the nursery, told Shropshire Live: "We know the importance of giving children a well-balanced, natural diet, which is why we are focusing so much on getting the children really excited about the food they eat."
A recent US study found that hiding vegetables in children's meals can significantly boost the amount of vitamins and minerals they consume.
