It is easier to teach children about good nutrition, than it is to change an adult's eating habits, according to Helena Oades, nutritionist for Zeal Health.

Ms Oades suggested that while it is possible to break unhealthy eating patterns in adulthood, this can mean changing behavioural patterns as well as educating people about healthy diets.

She said: "With any adult it is essential that we look not just at nutritional education but that we also focus on behavioural change techniques as well, to ensure we overcome old patterns of behaviour with eating and maintain a positive relationship with food."

By learning about nutrition in childhood, people are able to "form positive eating habits", which are more likely to translate into adulthood, she advised.

Her comments come in light of the government's announcement that it plans to tackle the issue of rising obesity rates by encouraging businesses to help employees to eat more healthily.ADNFCR-858-ID-800762634-ADNFCR
