Harley street nutritionist Yvonne Bishop-Weston has called on the public to include more vegetables in their diet in a bid to reduce the risk of cancer.

She was speaking after an Australian university study showed the link between vegetable consumption and a reduction in the risk of certain cancers.

According to the study, published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, vegetables like cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

These brassica vegetables are "associated with reduced incidence of proximal colon cancer," the study authors noted.

Ms Bishop-Weston is a long-time advocate of a plantarian diet, which promotes sustainable consumption of both vegetables and fruit as part of a healthy lifestyle.

"Fresh vegetable consumption must be big enough to reduce, and replace, the intake of foods detrimental to optimal health," she said.

The Harley Street nutritionist strongly opposes foods that are high in saturated fat and sugar which she views as nutrient depleted.ADNFCR-858-ID-800744418-ADNFCR
