Over 45s facing health crisis, Bupa International warns
Dr Sneh Khemka, medical director of Bupa International, said that being overweight, a high incidence of smoking and depression mean the UK has "a worse health status" than people in similar age groups in other countries.
He said: "[We need] to be more self-aware. We have some of the worst body mass indexes in the whole world, yet we think we're thinner than we are."
It is also important that Britons take more care over their diet, Dr Khemka said, as people are eating too many saturated fats and not enough fruit and vegetables.
Dr Khemka suggested that people in Asia have a much healthier diet and he suggested that "nutritional inspiration" could come from that part of the world.
