Probiotics as part of diet can restore balance

Stress can affect how people digest food and may lead them to be more susceptible to contracting the flu or a cold.

That is according to Janine Barlow, probiotic expert, who has warned that being stressed may cause diarrhoea.

She said: "Stress releases a hormone that can affect the gut microflora ... which can help us live healthily and digest our food."

When the balance of this gut bacteria is altered by stress, people can experience illness.

Ms Barlow's comments come in light of research by the Bio-Kult Probiotic team, which showed that consuming a probiotic drink as part of a person's diet can help redress the balance of microflora in the body.

The research suggested that children returning to school after the summer break are exposed to stress as one quarter of them has time off during the fist six weeks of a new term.ADNFCR-858-ID-800710787-ADNFCR
