The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has suggested that eating a balanced diet may be beneficial to eye health.

Clara Eaglen, eye health campaigns manager at RNIB, said suggested that various lifestyle factors, including taking exercise, can benefit a person's vision.

She said: "Exercise helps the supply of oxygen to the optic nerve and helps to lower pressure in the eye ... RNIB also recommends regular eye tests, not smoking, eating a balanced diet and protecting your eyes from the sun."

Ms Eaglen suggested that people should aim to have regular eye tests to help them detect any potential problems, which can then be dealt with.

Her comments come in light of a study published in the Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science journal, which examined how physical exercise can reduce the chances of developing glaucoma.

Physical Activity and Ocular Perfusion Pressure: The EPIC-Norfolk Eye Study, showed that people who took regular exercise were able to lower the risk of getting the disease.ADNFCR-858-ID-800777003-ADNFCR
